Children and Grief
A loss such as death, divorce or separation, can be classified as a crisis that propels us in the grief process.
The grief experience involves the entire person. Grief happens inside, where feelings live. Grief is not just one or two feelings but rather a collection of feelings.often conflicting. When it is ignored or "buried within" (pretending everything is O.K.), these emotions remain "unresolved grief" and can have a destructive effect on one's quality of life.
Some recognized stages of grief are: anger, denial, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
One of the best ways to overcome this grief is to tell stories and share feelings with others.
Grieving youth need caring adults to listen and support them while they express their feelings by way of talking, playing games and listening to stories.
