RAINBOWS Facilitator
This volunteer position leads weekly peer support groups with participants who
are grieving loss due to separation, divorce, abandonment, death or other major
life transitions. In order to meet their responsibilities Facilitators will:

Participate in RAINBOWS training given by a local Registered Director

Lead weekly peer support groups, following the RAINBOWS curriculum and
guidelines and using appropriate activities, games and Journals
-
Foster an atmosphere of trust and caring, supporting participants in sharing
their feelings and maintaining participants' confidentiality
-
Help participants put their feelings into words, work through their grief,
build a stronger sense of self-esteem and begin to accept what has taken place
in their families

Participate in formation meetings with the Site Coordinator and other RAINBOWS
Facilitators

Help Site Coordinator plan and execute Celebrate Me Day(s) at their Site

Commit to 1½- 2 hours of service per week for 14 consecutive weeks

Be 21 years of age or over

Desired Qualifications

Has worked closely with children, adolescents or adults

Has a motive of love, concern and respect for humankind
-
Is seriously committed to helping grieving participants
-
Can accept tension and negative emotion without becoming personally defensive
or incapable of response

Must maintain confidentiality
-
Is capable of working well with other adults
-
Is emotionally healthy
-
Realizes he/she does not have "answers" for participants' problems, but can
help them discover the means to cope with these problems
-
Is able to nurture and support members of a small group (4-6 participants)
